The Wiccan Rede
Bide the Wiccan Laws we must,
in perfect Love and perfect Trust.
Live and let live,
fairly take and fairly give.
Cast the Circle thrice about,
to keep the evil spirits out.
To bind a spell every time,
let the spell be spake in rhyme.
Soft of eye and light of touch,
speak little, listen much.
Deosil go by the waxing moon,
chanting out the Witches' Rune.
Widdershins go by the waning moon,
chanting out the baneful rune.
When the Lady's moon is new,
kiss the hand to Her, times two.
When the moon rides at her peak,
then your heart's desire seek.
Heed the North wind's mighty gale,
lock the door and drop the sail.
When the wind comes from the South,
love will kiss thee on the mouth.
When the wind blows from the West,
departed souls will have no rest.
When the wind blows from the East,
expect the new and set the feast.
Nine woods in the cauldron go,
burn them fast and burn them slow.
Elder be the Lady's tree,
burn it not or cursed you'll be.
When the Wheel begins to turn,
let the Beltane fires burn.
When the Wheel has turned to Yule,
light the logs and The Horned One rules.
Heed ye flower, bush and tree,
by the Lady, Blessed Be!
When the rippling waters go,
cast a stone and truth you'll know.
When ye have a true need,
harken not to other's greed.
With a fool no season spend,
lest ye be counted as his friend.
Merry Meet and Merry Part,
bright the cheeks and warm the heart.
Mind the Threefold Law you should,
three times bad and three times good.
When misfortune is enow,
wear a blue star upon thy brow.
True is love ever be,
lest thy lover's false to thee.
Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill:
"AN' HARM YE NONE, DO AS YE WILL!"

Wicca as a Religion
"Wicca" is an Old English word meaning "wise". Witchcraft pre-dates Christianity. It is an Earth based religion, and as such, honors the Divinity in all things. Divine energy is a balance between both Goddess and God. Witches strive to maintain a balance and harmony with the world around them. We follow an agricultural calendar that honors the cycles of the Sun and Moon. Just as there is a time to sow, there is a time to reap.
In 1985, Dettmer v Landon (617 F Supp 592) the District Court of Virginia pursuant to rule 52(a) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure ruled that Witchcraft is a legitimate religion and falls within a recognizable religious category.
United States Constitution Amendment Article VII #2 states:
"This Constitution, and the Laws of the Unites States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be The Supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anyting in the Constitution or laws of any state to the contrary notwithstanding."
"In light of the fact that Dettmer v Landon supra, being a Federally Adjudicated case, it is thereby protected by the Constitution. NO state can override this FEDERAL adjudication. NO WITCH can be denied his/her CIVIL LIBERTY and RIGHT to be a Witch, OPEN and FREE, in ANY STATE in the land; within the parameters of the Law."
The Constitution of the United States guarantees the right to freedom of religion. "Court may NOT inquire into worthiness of parties' religious belief to ascertain whether they merit First Amendment protection, but need only consider whether beliefs are "religious" in the parties' own scheme of things and whether their beliefs are sincere."
Witchcraft is accepted as a religion, therefore, Witches are entitled to the same protections as all other religious groups; under the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. Both the First and Fourteenth Amendments insure, without qualification, that a state may not forbid the holding of any religious belief or opinion, nor may it force anyone to embrace any religious belief, or to say or believe anything in conflict with his (her) religious tenents. (Africa v Anderson 542 F Supp 224)
United States Constitution Amendment 1
"Congress shall make NO LAW respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the FREE EXERCISE thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of people PEACEABLY to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Common Question Regarding Wicca
Q: Do Witches worship Satan or the Devil?
A: ABSOLUTELY NOT! Witches do not have an entity within their religion who is all evil. Because we believe there is balance within all things, we believe that any entity has the capability to be both good and evil.
Q: Why are male Witches called "Warlocks"?
A: male Witches are NOT called Warlocks, they are Witches, just as any female would be. The word "Warlock" means "traitor" or "oath breaker". How it became and "accepted" form of address is unknown, but it may have had something to do with Hollywood and their portrayal of Witches.
Q: Why do Witches wear black?
A: The color black absorbs light and helps Witches to be more receptive to psychic energies, but Witches wear MANY different colors based on what they are trying to accomplish in their majickal tasks and their own preferences.
Q: Why do Witches cast spells?
A: Witches perform spells as a means of prayer. All religions have prayers of some sort and perform ceremonies that are used to include those prayers. When a Witch performs a spell, we are merely conducting a ceremony to produce our intended result. Because we DO NOT set out to harm ANYONE, our spells usually involve several parts: statement of intent, calling of the Deity we wish to assist us in our ritual, the ritual, and the closing of the spell.
Q: Why do Witches wear a 5 pointed star?
A: The 5 pointed star is called a "Pentacle". The four points represent Earth, Air, Fire and Water. The fifth point, the one facing up, represents the Self. As the outside ring links all five points together it symbolizes the unity of our selves to our world. The Pentacle is also the symbol for Universal Wisdom.
Q: Why do you not give out spells like some other sites do? A: I personally do not believe in giving out spells to anyone, not even close friends. Magick comes from within, and I will assist anyone in writing a spell, but I do not give away what I worked so hard to acheive for several reasons:
1) My INTENT was used to write the spell and it was only created to serve MY purpose.
2) Since I cannot insure that the person using the spell has the ability and the knowledge to use the spell as it was created, I cannot insure it will work and not blow up in their faces.
3) I do not now, nor have I ever, condoned using spells to bend the free will of another person, so therefore the use of LOVE spells are out of the question in any form.
Q: What is the Triple Goddess symbol and what does it mean? What exactly does it look like??
A: I cannot even begin to tell you how many times a day I get this question posed to me, but as a rough guess, A LOT! I don't mind answering the questions, but I think I would rather not send out the same mundane response every time I get asked. Let's see if we can FINALLY lay this mystery (although not so mysterious it can't be answered) solved.
The Triple Goddess is a representation of the phases of a woman's life:
Maiden, the time she is a child, before menses and the ability to bear children.
Mother, the time of a woman's life when she is fruitful, her menses following the cycles of the moon and when she will mature into herself.
Crone, the time of great wisdom. At this point the woman has borne all her fruits and she her menses has ceased. This is the time of peace and reflection, sharing her knowledge with those around her. This is the time for her preparation to pass onto the next life.
Now mind you, each woman passes through these life courses at different rates. Being a Crone does not mean you are finished with life and merely waiting to die, nor does getting your menses make you a Mother.
As for the sign of the Triple Goddess, I think the most beautiful representation of the symbol was given to me as a gift.
As you can see, the left crescent represents the phase of Maiden, not quite in her fullness and still beginning to grow. The center medallion represents the Mother, full and ripe with life. The right cresent represents the waning phase of the Crone, imparting Her wisdoms in preparation for her parting, so the cycle may start once again.
